American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) – Original Course

The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Original Course is designed for healthcare professionals and public safety providers who need to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies, particularly cardiac arrest and respiratory emergencies, in a team-based environment.

This instructor-led, hands-on course teaches participants how to deliver high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relieve foreign-body airway obstructions (choking). Emphasis is placed on early recognition, effective chest compressions, proper ventilation, and coordinated team dynamics to improve patient outcomes.

The BLS Original Course follows the most current American Heart Association guidelines and includes both cognitive learning and practical skills testing. Successful completion results in a 2-year American Heart Association BLS Provider certification, which is widely accepted by hospitals, healthcare systems, and regulatory agencies nationwide.

This course is ideal for:

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) – Renewal Course

The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Renewal Course is designed for healthcare professionals and public safety providers who are renewing an active or recently expired AHA BLS Provider certification.

This instructor-led course focuses on reinforcing high-quality CPR skills, effective use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and proper management of adult, child, and infant emergencies. Participants will review current AHA guidelines, demonstrate required skills, and complete a written exam to ensure continued competency in life-saving care.

The BLS Renewal Course is streamlined for experienced providers while maintaining the American Heart Association’s rigorous training standards. Successful completion results in a 2-year AHA BLS Provider certification, accepted nationwide by hospitals, healthcare systems, and regulatory agencies.

This course is appropriate for:

  • Healthcare professionals renewing an existing AHA BLS certification

  • Nurses, physicians, EMTs, paramedics, and allied health professionals

  • Individuals whose employer requires current AHA BLS credentials

Course highlights include:

The American Red Cross Basic Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Course prepares Instructor Candidates to confidently teach Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED courses using the current American Red Cross curriculum and standards.

This course focuses on instructional excellence, skill mastery, and effective classroom facilitation, ensuring candidates are fully prepared to deliver high-quality, compliant training in a variety of learning environments, including community, workplace, and educational settings.

Course Overview

Instructor Candidates will learn how to:

  • Teach American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED courses

  • Conduct skill demonstrations and performance evaluations

  • Manage class rosters, documentation, and certification requirements

  • Facilitate both lecture-based and hands-on skills training

  • Apply Red Cross instructional methodologies and learner-centered teaching techniques

  • Maintain professionalism, consistency, and compliance as a Red Cross Instructor

The course includes guided practice teaching, peer feedback, and instructor-led coaching to ensure candidates are prepared to lead classes independently upon successful completion.

Course Structure

The Instructor Course consists of:

  • Pre-course work (completed online prior to the in-person session)

  • In-person instructor training, which includes:

    • Teaching strategies and course presentation

    • Skills instruction and assessment techniques

    • Scenario facilitation and learner evaluation

    • Administrative and compliance responsibilities

  • Instructor candidate performance evaluation

*Successful completion of all components is required for certification.

Prerequisites

To enroll, Instructor Candidates must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age by the last day of the course

  • Hold a current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or equivalent, as approved)

  • Complete all required pre-course online learning prior to attending the in-person skills session

**PREREQUISITE COURSE OFFER**

OK CPR NOW offers classes in underserved communities nationwide. This means we have recognized that course prerequisites can be difficult to complete without a lot of options. OK CPR NOW always offers the Basic American Red Cross Adult and Pediatrics CPR/AED/First Aid certfication class prior to all Instructor courses. This way our Instructors can come to one location on the same day to receive their required course prerequisites. You can find these classes listed on our website to get registered. Certification

Upon successful completion, candidates will be certified as American Red Cross Basic First Aid/CPR/AED Instructors, authorizing them to teach American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED courses in accordance with Red Cross policies and guidelines.

The Instructor certification is valid for two years, provided all Red Cross renewal and compliance requirements are maintained.

The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults children and infants. It is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA workplace or other regulatory requirements. Upon successful completion a valid 2 year digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED is issued.

In order to best ensure that we have a trainer available for our classes, we do not permit cancellation after you have enrolled and made your payment.  However, if something should arise and you are unable to make the scheduled time and date of your training, please contact us within 24 hours and we can rebook your reservation to another time and date at no extra cost to you.
