American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) – Original Course
The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Original Course is designed for healthcare professionals and public safety providers who need to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies, particularly cardiac arrest and respiratory emergencies, in a team-based environment.
This instructor-led, hands-on course teaches participants how to deliver high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relieve foreign-body airway obstructions (choking). Emphasis is placed on early recognition, effective chest compressions, proper ventilation, and coordinated team dynamics to improve patient outcomes.
The BLS Original Course follows the most current American Heart Association guidelines and includes both cognitive learning and practical skills testing. Successful completion results in a 2-year American Heart Association BLS Provider certification, which is widely accepted by hospitals, healthcare systems, and regulatory agencies nationwide.
